Far Infrared Rays are the most beneficial rays to our health. Far Infrared Therapy, as it is often called, has been in existence for more than 3,000 years.

Palm Healing’ has been in practice in China since then. We are also an emitter of far-infrared rays. Our bodies radiate far infrared energy through the skin it 3 to 50 microns, with most output at 9.4 microns. Our palms also emit FIR energy, between 8 and 14 microns.

According to an article published in the American Journal of Chinese Medicine in 1991, researchers at the National Yang-Ming Medical College in Taipei measured the energy Qigong masters emit from their palms. The study showed that the emitted infrared Qi (energy in Traditional Chinese Medicine), had positive effects on human fibroblasts, the cells that rebuild connective tissue. The study also showed that the infrared Qi stimulated a significant increase in cell growth, DNA synthesis and protein synthesis in cells.

FIR have a deep penetrating power. They can penetrate through the skin into the subcutaneous tissues, thereby improving blood circulation, promoting overall metabolism, getting rid of bodily toxins and metabolic by-products from the body and improving cellular vitality. The thermal effect within the deep layers of the tissues causes blood vessels and capillaries to dilate, promoting better blood circulation.
Infrared energy is said to be safe and highly beneficial for our bodies. Far Infrared lamps are actively used for medical treatments by doctors, chiropractors, acupuncturists, physiotherapists and massage therapists for treating arthritis, joint pain, stiff muscles, injuries to tendons and ligaments, and to promote a faster self-body healing effect.

The Japanese and Chinese researchers and clinicians have done extensive research on the use of Far Infrared medical treatments over the last 25 years. In Japan, there is an ‘infrared society whose members are medical doctors and physical therapists interested in far Infrared application research. Their findings support the outstanding health benefits of Far Infrared therapy as a method of healing. Dr. Tadashi Ishikawa, a member of the Research and Development Department of Fuji Medical, received a patent in 1965 for a zirconia ceramic infrared heater used in the first healing infrared thermal systems. In fact, medical practitioners in Japan were the only ones allowed to use the infrared thermal systems for 14 years. In 1979, the systems were finally released for public use. There are now many applications of FIR: FIR sleeping pads and heaters, FIR ovens, FIR fabrics such as socks, gloves and under-garments, and FIR panels for incubators in maternity wards.

In recent years, FIR saunas have also become more popular, replacing the conventional ones that use Near Infrared technology. These saunas can operate at a lower temperature and yet produce effects much better than conventional ones at higher temperatures.
