Chemically, ozone is an allotrope of oxygen. Oxygen gas is diatomic molecule, but ozone is triatomic. Ozone can be produced either by solar radiation or by electrical charges (lightning) during a thunderstorm. Ozone is created when oxygen (O2) molecules are split into two separate atoms by ultraviolet radiation from the sun, lightning, and electrical arcs. The feed atoms recombine in 3 atom groups to form ozone (O3).

Ozone is one of the most powerful natural sanitizers and deodorizers known to science. It does not mask odours and harmful substances; it eliminates them altogether.

After a thunderstorm, the air is clean and fresh due to the formation of ozone.

Ozone is quickly becoming the oxidant of choice for many air and water applications! It is used in food processing, food storage, odour abatement, groundwater remediation and drinking water purification.

Ozone therapy is still a controversial Subject of discussion. Proponents believe ozone has remarkable healing properties, but opponents argue that it is nonscientific and has no proven benefits. Sunlight shining on industrial and automotive pollution shears oxygen atoms off the pollutant molecules, leaving behind harmful compounds such as nitrous oxide, nitric acid, Sulphur dioxide, and carbon monoxide.

Meanwhile, the freed oxygen atoms bond with free oxygen to form ozone.

Ozone therapy is considered an alternative and complementary therapy in most continental European countries. In the USA, the recently passed Alternative Therapy Legislation has made ozone therapy an option for patients in some states like Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, New York and Washington.
